2022 Majestic Oaks Volunteer of the Year- Dick Owen

Dick Owen lived in Virginia, worked in DC, and rode his TB in backyard barn competitions in Maryland. He has given his time yearly since 1999 at the Kentucky (Rolex) Three Day event and occasionally volunteered at Fair Hill. As life goes, his TB died, Dick retired and his wife (who isn’t a horsey person) had plans for them to move to the Florida beach.

Then suddenly, there was Linus. A young AQHA was loaded up for the move and Dick was back into horses but now having to get into the Florida horse scene… and he found Ocala. He found volunteering at the horse show not only more enjoyable than a day at the beach, but a chance to meet a world of wonderful riders, organizers, and volunteers.

Dick can be found at many of the area’s shows volunteering as a jump judge, start, finish, warmup, competitor shuttle, jump videographer, or in the gate. At Majestic Oaks, Dick has found his home at the final jump/ finish timer and says the intimacy of the venue and the waves and thanks from the competitors as they cross finish makes his day.

He is fully engrossed in giving back to the sport of Eventing through volunteering so much so that in 2022 he has been ranked #1 USEA volunteer of the year having volunteered almost 500 hours and has been awarded the Majestic Oaks volunteer of 2022.

I came to Florida not knowing anyone and found Ocala, a place I could relate to. I love meeting the volunteers and riders. I consider them my friends.

2022 Majestic Oaks 2nd place Volunteer of the Year- Ginny Hahn

Ginny Hahn is a large asset to the Ocala equestrian community! She recently joined the Majestic Oaks volunteer team having relocated from New Hampshire. Ginny was active in her daughter’s Pony Club and barn life. She helped at Hilltop Equestrian Center with shows, organizing clinics, etc. When not volunteering, you can find her at her gorgeous boarding facility.

Her passion for helping has continued and she is still helping the sport in any way needed. Ginny is a volunteer of all trades and can be found all over at Majestic Oaks from Dressage scribe to the Start box. We cannot be more grateful to Ginny for always being willing to pitch in wherever we need her expertise!!

“Those that can’t ride the majestic creature  – can at least help while riders reach for their dreams!  I love to watch people smiling coming out of the rings knowing they have just experienced a great team effort with their horse! If I can’t ride I can at least encourage riders to breathe and have fun! I feel so lucky to be able to help with the Majestic Oaks Shows – and be part of a life experience for the riders!”

2022 Majestic Oaks 3rd place Volunteer of the Year- Gail Allison

Gail Allison is the smiling face that sends our riders out of the startbox on cross country. She helps put competitors at ease and helps keep cross country running smoothly. She is a tremendous asset to our Majestic Oaks Volunteer team! Gail helps us stay organized, and on time and most importantly helps us convey our compassion, support, and respect for our competitors.

Also, Gail volunteers all over Area 3 and is often found at the start box. She is a real superwoman having served in law enforcement. Gail is an avid equestrian as well with an extensive knowledge base. Gail rides every day. She enjoys her time in the saddle and has evented through the Intermediate level! Gail has competed up and down the East Coast. Notably, spending time with the O’Connors in VA!

“I find Eventing somewhat unique since it is a challenge that requires a partner that keeps us humble and touches our soul.”

Gail Allison

Congrats to all. A special thank you to Cassi Cameron, our Volunteer Coordinator for putting together this program. Thanks for making the Majestic Oaks 2022 Volunteer Leaderboard results possible.

We would like to ask our competitors and spectators to thank a volunteer when they see one. It makes a world of difference to them and this sport would not be possible without them. We are always on looking for ways to increase volunteerism and reward our volunteers. If you are an instructor and would be willing to donate some time to a clinic or activity for our volunteers we would be most appreciative.
